ICONOGRAPHY CLASSES AT THE ORTHODOX METROPOLIS OF KOREA

On Monday morning, May 20, 2019, the lessons on byzantine iconography began, organized by the Orthodox Metropolis of Korea at its headquarters, with the participation of 18 students, Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike.

After the short prayer, Metropolitan Ambrosios firstly, thanked God for having helped organize this year’s Program; secondly, he thanked the Iconographer Professor Mr. Sozos Yiannoudis for his great contribution to our Orthodox Church in Korea; and thirdly he thanked all the students, old and young, who, with zeal and great enthusiasm, came to be taught the sacred and spiritual art of Byzantine Iconography.

Mr. S. Yiannoudis then expressed his joy for being again in Korea and promising to do his best to help students learn the technique of Byzantine Iconography, as well as its special importance for spiritual life.

At the end, Father Anthony Lim read a small passage on the theological significance of the Holy Icons from St. John Damascene’s “The Second speech to those who slander the Holy Icons”, and also a small part of the decision of the Seventh Ecumenical Council on the honoring and not worshiping of the Holy Icons.

Lessons take place daily, from 10 am until 6 pm, except Sundays.
